Separation can cause some child anxiety that must be dealt with. Sometimes it’s really tough when dealing with a separation please keep the children in mind.

Living apart is tough,but it shouldn’t hurt to be a child.Parents need to act like adults and not share their feelings with their children about each other.

awesome. glad it was you sitting there. not many men would share the same thoughts of responsibility that you did. i cant help but think about all the little girl out there who will never know who their father is and who will spend a lifetime searching, and i mean a lifetime, because at 44 yo, while my father “left” not because he wanted to but because cancer took him when i was 7 yo, i have always searched, not so successfully, for that father, male figure, in many of my adult relationships with men. awesome, i say because you were called to be there. i feel for her, and for you too, and for all the others out there not having the answers. what will you do with this new found revelation Mr. Braswell? now what?

I’m a Christian, and if I backslide or fall short in doing what is required of me, that makes me no less of a Christian. I get that. But to put that same reasoning in a co-parenting perspective…okay, I’m going to have to read this a few more times. Not because I think you’re “wrong,” but because I’ve never thought of it this way.

@Alexandra: I’m in the same boat…and I know better. My mother died intestate, so I know what that experience is like for a child (an adult child.) And, in a situation where my son’s father and I were never married, I imagine that there are even more considerations that need to be taken to make sure our son is protected. I’m looking forward to the discussion with Steve on Sunday.

This is VERY important. I have been slacking on putting together a legal document outlinging my wishes for my daughter in the event of my death. Its scary to think about and consider, but we have to be prepared for the unthinkable. Ensuing my daughter is in the right hands is my concern. I have already outlined someone who will be responsible for, but haven’t known the ways in which to get this legalized. I was going to use LegalZoom, but it has slipped my mind with all that I have to do.
I’d love to win a copy of Wear Clean Underwear: A Fast, Fun, Friendly—And Essential–Guide to Legal Planning for Busy Parents, but if I don’t win I am definitely going to purchase a copy of this book and read!

Whtney traylor is a great role model for little his lady and for the black community here in Denver. One question How do we keep black man and boy from prison and in school.Where do Mr Traylor books that he`s written.

This is such an important lesson for both sides of the co-parenting arrangement. Its a constant struggle, specifically because we are hesitant to leave the emotions out. Great post!
